 MONO-THANE™ SL (Single Component)

Excellent weather, chemical & jet-fuel resistance and exceptional long-term elongation properties for sealing airport runways, highways, bridges, driveways, and loading docks.
TECH DATA SHEET | PRODUCT BULLETIN
AVAILABLE COLORS:

Black

A self-leveling, asphalt-modified, one-component, moisture-curing polyurethane sealant for horizontal joints in chemical and industrial environments. It can be used direct from the container without mixing or priming (in most cases) for sealing moving and stationary joints. MONO-THANE™ SL provides long-term performance.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE: (24 Hour Spot Test)

Hydrochloric Acid 5% Cold No effect
Sulphuric Acid 10% No effect
Water (22°C - 72°C) No effect
Lubricating Oils No effect
SAE 10 Oil No effect
Motor Oil 10W/40 No effect
Jet Fuel No effect
Fuel Oil/Diesel Fuel No effect

JOINT DESIGN:

  • The number of joints and the joint width should be designed for a maximum of + 25% movement.
  • The depth of the sealant should be 1/2 the width of the joint. The maximum depth is 1/2” (13mm) and the minimum is 1/4” (6mm). Maximum recommended joint width is 1-1/2” (38mm).
  • In deep joints, control the sealant depth by installing Closed-Cell Backer-Rod or Soft Backer-Rod (see Form No. 1026342).
  • Where the joint depth does not permit the use of backer-rod, use a bondbreaker (polyethylene strip) to prevent three-sided adhesion.
  • To maintain the recommended sealant depth, install backer-rod by compressing and rolling it into the joint channel without stretching it lengthwise. Closed-cell backer-rod should be about 1/8” (3mm) larger in diameter than the width of the joint to allow for compression. Soft backer-rod should be approximately 25% larger in diameter than the joint width. The sealant does not adhere to it, and no separate bondbreaker is required. Do not prime or puncture the backer-rod.

SURFACE PREPARATION:
Joint faces must be structurally sound, fully cured, clean, dry, and free of all loose aggregates, paint, oil, grease, wax, mastic compounds, waterproofing compounds, form-release agents, and other contamination.

NEW CONCRETE:
Remove all loose material by wire brushing. Sandblast surfaces that have been in contact with form release agents. Fresh concrete must be fully cured at least 28 days. Laitance must be removed by abrading.

OLD CONCRETE PREVIOUSLY CAULKED:
Remove all old joint sealant material by mechanical means. If joint sides have absorbed oils, cut away sufficient concrete to ensure clean surface.

PRIMING:

  • Prime steel in contact with MONO-THANE™ SL with Stainless Steel Primer after cleaning to bright metal.
  • Where water immersion may occur, prime joint faces with Elasto-Poxy™ Primer.
  • Apply primer in a thin, uniform film to avoid buildup of excess primer.
  • Allow approximately 45 - 60 minutes drying time before applying sealant.

APPLICATION:
MONO-THANE™ SL can be poured from a can or applied by gun. Fill joint from bottom to prevent formation of air voids. Avoid application at extremely low temperatures to prevent moisture condensation and excessive thickening of the sealant.

 RES-CRETE™ RC 802 (Injection Epoxy)

Restores concrete to acceptable strength standards by injection under pressure into hairline and larger cracks, even in damp concrete.
TECH DATA SHEET
AVAILABLE COLOR:

Clear

TYPE I: Potlife- 1 hour at 77°F (25°C).
Recommended for sealing cracks in large structures, where the epoxy must flow for a long period of time before the crack is penetrated and filled.

TYPE II: Potlife- 5-10 minutes at 77°F (25°C).
Most suitable for relatively thin structures, or where there is danger of the epoxy compound flowing out of the cracks before it hardens.

A two-component, low viscosity, 100% solids epoxy resin base adhesive. A modified Bisphenol A-Epichlorohydrin epoxy resin, amido-amine type hardener, modified to be compatible with damp concrete. RES-CRETE™ RC 802 is used to restore cracked structural or non-structural concrete to acceptable strength standards by the injection under pressure by either hand operated guns or powered mixing-pump equipment. It has the ability to penetrate into hairline cracks, due to its low viscosity.

APPLICATION:
All cracks must be adequately covered on the surface with RES-CRETE™ RC 881 epoxy paste, and pressure injection ports imbedded in the paste in the holes drilled directly over the center of the crack at distances dictated by the thickness of the concrete structure, severity of cracks and other job factors.

The injection adhesive is introduced at the first valve under sufficient pressure for the epoxy compound to advance to the adjacent valve. The first valve is then capped and the introduction of the epoxy is shifted to the valve at which the epoxy compound appears. The procedure is repeated until the entire crack has been sealed. After a 24 hour cure, the valves and surplus epoxy paste are removed by grinding them flush with the surface. Only pressure injection ports suitable for this application should be used.

 ELASTO-SEAL™ 227 (Polysulphide)

A two-part, self leveling or gun-grade, polysulfide sealant, which effectively seals joints that are subject to traffic or severe structural or thermal movement, as well as non-moving joints, against infiltration of water and dirt.
TECH DATA SHEET
AVAILABLE COLORS:

Concrete Gray White

TYPE I: Self-Leveling/Pourable | TYPE II: Gungrade/Non-Sag
BASIC USES:
For use in sealing non-potable reservoirs, dams, canals culverts, and flood control channels. Also used for sealing curtain-wall panels, tilt-up panels, window glazing, flashing and metal setting. Also, for all joint-seal applications, such as expansion and contraction joints in shopping centers, sidewalks or other traffic areas. It will effectively prevent water from entering the sealed joints and thereby eliminate erosion of the soil underneath the slabs, particularly areas which are exposed to water frequently, such as swimming pool decks and around planters. All coping joints and deck joints should be sealed.

In adobe soil areas, unsealed joints may cause swelling of the soil and subsequent buckling and cracking of the concrete slab. ELASTO-SEAL™ 227 maintains a low modulus of extension even after prolonged exposure to the elements. This prevents adhesive and cohesive failures which often occur when a caulking compound hardens excessively with aging.

ELASTO-SEAL™ 227 is preferred for joints that are subjected to traffic, or severe movement shortly after sealant installation, and for joints of such large dimension that ELASTO-THANE™ 230 would require too much time to cure throughout. Primers may be necessary for certain applications.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE:
ELASTO-SEAL™ 227 is highly chemical resistant. After 7 days of contact at 77°F, testing of over 60 chemicals had no effect on ELASTO-SEAL™ 227. The tests included most common solvents, acids used in chemical and food production, foodstuffs, common household and commercial cleaning fluids, alcohols, and oils. Note: all chemical spills should be cleaned up as soon as possible. Please review the Technical Data Sheet above for complete test results.

TYPE I: Self-Leveling/Pourable | TYPE II: Gungrade/Non-Sag
A low modulus, polyurea joint sealant, which cures to a firm, flexible, tear-resistant rubber. It is highly resilient and has excellent recovery characteristics after extended periods of compression or elongation. Both Type I and Type II are 100% V.O.C. Free materials. ELASTO-THANE™ 920 is designed to tolerate significant joint movement, up to ±25%. Unlike conventional polyurethane sealants, both components are insensitive to moisture, therefore, the containers may be opened and re-sealed without the material setting up. It contains no solvents, therefore, contains no strong odors, and consists of an “A” Component (Base), “B” Component (Catalyst), and a color pak.

BASIC USES:
ELASTO-THANE™ 920 is a general purpose sealant providing a flexible, durable, weathertight seal for all types of building joints, such as expansion joints in masonry and metal curtain walls, perimeter joints of sashes, panels and doors, non-potable water reservoirs, etc.

JOINT DESIGN:

  • The spacing and number of joints, as well as the joint width, should be designed to limit total joint movement to ±25%.
  • The depth of the sealant, including its shape, should be controlled by using acceptable joint fillers or backing rod materials. Polyethylene rod or polyurethane foam is recommended as a joint-filler and back up material. Fillers treated with bituminous products, grease or oil, must not be used. Where present, contaminants must be completely removed or separated by vinyl tape or polyethylene film.
  • A bond breaker tape, or polyethylene strip, should be used in shallow joints, which do not allow the use of a backerrod. Either a backer rod or bond breaker tape must be used to prevent three-sided adhesion.
  • Suitable for all properly designed joints following accepted engineering practices. Joint width must be a minimum of 4 times the anticipated movement.

SURFACE PREPARATION:

  • All joints must be absolutely clean and dry. For concrete joints, sandblasting is recommended. All curing compounds, old caulks, grease, waterproofing compounds, wax, rust, paint, curing compounds, loose debris, etc. must be removed.
  • For non-porous surfaces such as glass, metal, etc., cleaning with Acetone is recommended. Do not use Toluene, as it leaves an oily surface.

PRIMING:

  • ELASTO-THANE™ 920 is a self-priming sealant, therefore, a primer is not normally required.
  • However, for submerged applications or damp joints, prime all joints with Elasto-Poxy™ Primer prior to installation. The Elasto-Poxy™ Primer must dry for approximately 1 hour at 77°F and 50% R.H. before installing the ELASTO-THANE™ 920.
  • The contractor should test the adhesion of the sealant at the job site in order to verify that proper adhesion is being obtained.

MIXING:

  • ELASTO-THANE™ 920 is a two-component material, plus a separate color pak, and must be mechanically mixed prior to use.
  • The "A" Component, "B" Component, and color pak are all pre-proportioned, at the factory, which eliminates the need for job site measuring. Mix complete kits only.
  • Empty entire contents of "B" Component and color-pak into the "A" Component pail. Mix thoroughly for 5 minutes, using a low speed drill and Jiffy mixing blade. Avoid whipping air into the material.
  • During the mixing procedure, scrape the bottom and the sides of the container to ensure that the "A" Component, "B" Component, and color pak are thoroughly mixed, and that the color is uniform.

APPLICATION:

  • After the ELASTO-THANE™ 920 has been completely mixed, the sealant must be drawn into a bulk caulking gun, or the bulk caulking gun may be filled using a "follower plate" device.
  • Apply ELASTO-THANE™ 920 continuously using sufficient pressure to fill the entire width and depth of the joint, from the bottom up.
  • The tooling device may be wiped with a solvent, such as Xylene, to achieve a smooth, properly tooled joint.
  • For Horizontal Joints, ELASTO-THANE™ 920 Type I, Pourable may be used where the slope does not exceed 2%. A firm backing material is required beneath horizontal joints in order to help the sealant resist puncturing from high heel traffic.

LIMITATIONS:
ELASTO-THANE™ 920 is not recommended for areas subject to harsh chemical immersion, and special architectural finishes without prior testing. Joints that are subjected to water immersion, such as non-potable reservoirs, canals, water tanks, ponds, etc., may be caulked if the Elasto-Poxy™ Primer is used to prime the joints prior to installing the sealant. ELASTO-THANE™ 920 is recommended for expansion joints subjected to severe movement, where a low modulus sealant is required.

TECH DATA SHEET | PRODUCT BULLETIN
AVAILABLE COLORS:

Concrete Gray Aluminum Gray

A two-component, pourable, 100% solids, epoxy resin joint filler designed with extremely high shore hardness (up to 77A depending upon ambient temperature). The product does not shrink and cures to a semi-rigid state. It can be installed in virtually any application from 40°F to 130°F, from coolers to storage warehouses and is resistant to most chemicals. It can be razor shaved immediately after curing, or sometime in the next seven days, and the floor can be reopened to traffic within 24 hours of application. It can also be used to repair spalled joints, fill random cracks and patch gouges, holes, and surface defects. RES-CRETE™ RC 227 is designed for use on industrial floors that may be subjected to forklifts, trucks, etc. It has high resistance to penetration.

ADVANTAGES:

  • Semi-Rigid Epoxy
  • Shaves easily
  • High Shore Hardness
  • Fast Cure with No Shrink
  • Resists Chemicals
  • No Primer is Needed

APPLICATIONS:

  • Cold Storage
  • Warehouses
  • Food Processing
  • Bottling and Canning Plants

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE:
RES-CRETE™ RC 227 resists most chemicals. After 7 days of contact at 77°F, testing of over 20 chemicals had no effect with the exception of some concentrated acids. The tests included most common solvents, acids used in chemical and food production, foodstuffs, common household and commercial cleaning fluids, alcohols, and oils. Note: all chemical spills should be cleaned up as soon as possible. Please review the Technical Data Sheet above for complete test results.

JOINT DESIGN:
Joints must be free of dirt, debris, previously applied coatings, sealers, and saw laitance, etc. The most effective joint preparation is dry-cutting with a vacuum-equipped, diamond blade saw. With the blade depth extended to the full filler depth, run it against each sidewall. Vacuum out any remaining debris. Joints or cracks that pass completely through the floor may be choked-off at the bottom with 1/4” of dry silica sand, or thickening the filler by mixing it with sand (for the bottom layer of the joint only) to prevent the liquid from running straight through. For best results, delay joint filling for as long as possible. If filling in refrigerated areas (coolers over 40°F), the room should be stabilized at its final operating temperature for more than 7 days. Joints should be dry at the time of installation, and the work area should be well ventilated. New concrete floors should have a minimum cure-time of 30 days prior to application of RES-CRETE™ RC 227.

APPLICATION:
Install with bulk caulking gun, power dispensing pump, or pour directly from the mixing container. Mix thoroughly with a jiffy-type mechanical mixer and gun or pour into clean joints. Joints may be slightly damp at the time of installation. In cooler temperatures, the pot life will be longer. The mixture can be warmed to shorten cure times. To effectively protect joints edges, RES-CRETE™ RC 227 must be flush with the floor surface. Joints must be overfilled (crowned), which can cause staining along the sides. If surface staining is not acceptable, apply the final floor coating to the entire surface before cutting the joints. Most concrete coatings will not be stained by the epoxy overfill. (Contact Manufacturer for details.) Razor shave the overfilled crown after it has fully cured. If a smooth shave cannot be achieved, the joint may be warmed first.
Note: DO NOT USE COMPRESSIBLE MATERIALS OR BACKER RODS IN SAW CUT JOINTS.

PAC POLYUREA™ 85A (Rapid Setting Joint Filler)

An extremely high shore, semi-rigid polyurea that prevents industrial vehicle traffic from spalling (breaking) off saw-cut joint edges. Allows floors to be re-opened to normal traffic within just 1 hour!
TECH DATA SHEET | PRODUCT BULLETIN
AVAILABLE COLORS:

Concrete Gray or Custom Matched

A two-component, 100% solids, non-staining, rapid setting polyurea joint filler designed with extremely high shore hardness (up to 90A depending upon ambient temperature) to prevent industrial vehicle traffic such as trucks, cars, forklifts or steel wheeled carts, from spalling (breaking) off saw-cut joint edges. The product does not shrink and cures to a semi-rigid state. It can be installed in virtually any application from -40°F to 130°F, from freezers to storage warehouses (without climate control). It can be razor shaved cleanly immediately after curing, or at any time in the future without chattering, and the floor can be reopened to traffic within 60 minutes of application. It can also be used to repair spalled joints, fill random cracks and patch gouges, holes, and surface defects. No primer is needed.

ADVANTAGES:

  • Semi-Rigid Polyurea
  • One-Hour Cure at Any Ambient Temperature
  • Extremely High Shore Hardness (80A - 90A)
  • Shaves Cleanly
  • Resists Chemicals
  • Non-Staining
  • Resistant to Chemicals
  • Color can be Custom Matched to Almost any Swatch

APPLICATIONS:

  • Cold Storage Facilities
  • Industrial and Warehouse Floors
  • Food Processing Facilities
  • Bottling and Canning Plants
  • Waste Water Treatment Facilities

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE:
PAC POLYUREA™ 85A is highly chemical resistant. After 7 days of contact at 77°F, testing of over 40 chemicals had no effect.

Joints or cracks that pass completely through the floor may be choked-off at the bottom with 1/4” of dry silica sand, or thickening the filler by mixing it with sand (for the bottom layer of the joint only) to prevent the liquid from running through.

APPLICATION:
Install with static mixing tips and use power dispensing pumps for larger areas. (Recommended equipment available through: Adhesive Systems Technology Corporation) Joints must be overfilled (crowned). Most concrete coatings will not be stained by the overfill. (Contact Manufacturer for details.) To effectively protect joints edges, PAC POLYUREA™ 85A must be flush with the floor surface. Razor shave the overfilled crown after it has fully cured. For best results, delay joint filling for as long as possible. If filling in refrigerated areas, the room should be stabilized at its final operating temperature for more than 7 days before filling joints. Joints should be dry at the time of installation, and the work area should be well ventilated. New floors should have a minimum cure-time of 30 days prior to application of PAC POLYUREA™ 85A.
Note: DO NOT USE COMPRESSIBLE MATERIALS OR BACKER RODS IN SAW CUT JOINTS.
